The Guide to Tawaf: Etiquette, Supplications & Sunan
Deepen your connection with the Holy Kaaba with a complete walkthrough of Tawaf etiquette.
Entering the Mataf with Khushu
As you enter the Mataf courtyard, lower your gaze until you stand before the Kaaba. Reflect on the millions of righteous believers who have circumambulated this sanctuary across centuries. Purify your heart of worldly thoughts.
Idtiba and Ramal for Men
During the Tawaf of Umrah, men uncover their right shoulder (Idtiba) for all seven circuits. In the first three circuits, men should walk briskly with short steps (Ramal) if space permits safely without crowding or pushing others.
Recommended Supplications
Between the Yemeni Corner (Rukn al-Yamani) and the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad), recite the Prophetic supplication: "Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina 'adhaban-nar." In all other parts of the circuit, supplicate for your parents, children, health, forgiveness, and the wider Ummah.
